today i went in for my FIT interview. i was totally freaking out when i was waiting around because everyone was dressed to the nines and i was feeling awfully intimidated. there were also transfer students who were in their twenties so that was scary too. thirty something kids sat in this room with like five circle tables. we were supposed to draw a fashion design while we waited for our interview. my table was the only one talking, which was nice because it made me less nervous. everyone else was so damn serious. in the front of the room there were five tables set up with one or two professors at each table. a few people at my table were interviewed and came back to tell us how it went. they were saying that it was really scary and that the interviewer said stuff like "you do know this is supposed to be a fashion design for people, not fashion figures..." and "how do they get into these clothes? there are no seams..." and "you missed a lot of threads on the inside." so that made me nervous.

finally i got called up and i went over to this guy in the corner. he already read my questionairre thing and had my home test laid out on the table. the first thing he said was "you're in high school?" i said yes and he made a face like omfg. then asked me all sorts of questions about how i learned to draw and if i had professional training. i said my dad taught me XD. he was so excited that he called over another professor and they thought my design based on the amorphophallus flower (corpse flower) was the bee's knees. he said something like "it's so graceful! (to the other professor:) she's only in high school!" i told them how it's supposed to be the ugliest flower and smells bad and the guy thought it was HILARIOUS. when he saw the rest of my portfolio he was totally flabbergasted and called two other professors over. he was like, "hey, so-and-so, i think you better see this..." so in total i had four professors looking at my stuff when they were supposed to be interviewing people. this lady thought the black and white dress was "cute as a button" and the guy interviewing me's jaw dropped when he saw the boning i put in a dress top. the lady said "some of our students can't even do this!" ok and this guy who WROTE a fashion illustration book told me my work was excellent. he asked where i bought the fabric for a floral dress i made and i said jo-ann's. he was like "whoah! i thought you were going to say Mood or something, that's wonderful! it's great that you used a drapery fabric! it shows you are very versatile." plus the guy interviewing me is in charge of costume design, so he loved the historical floral dress and the modern touches i put on it. i was just smiling ear to ear. i was afraid he would be dissapointed by my sewing but as soon as he turned the dress inside out he went "i see your mother taught you to sew really well too!" he kept saying things were adorable and very cute. that just made me so happy. when all the other teachers left he said "i think you are incredibly talented. your drawings are just- pshaw. i really hope you are in my class." now isn't that just wonderful. i was so surprised that they were impressed at all because they have seen thousands of portfolios. i honestly was not expecting the reaction i got AT ALL. if anything i thought he would have tons of stuff to nit-pick at and i would go away in tears.

the only odd part was when he asked me who my favorite designer was i said heatherette, because it was all i could think of. he made a weird face and said "well you have much better taste than them". hmm i know he was being nice but hey heatherette is good D:

basically i pwned. YEAH BITCH, YEAH!

so... my interview at FIT is tomorrow. i'm not too nervous about it now, but i probably will be when i get there. i'm most afraid of seeing some other kid's work that completely blows mine out of the water. that would be scary. i heard that some people are really hardcore about it and wear like an entire outfit that they made and just ugh. i hope that i will just be so charming that they'll have to let me in.

i love not having to worry about my portfolios anymore. it's such a giant weight lifted- i feel so relieved. i'm also glad that i got them sent out before the interview because i wouldn't have wanted to be stressed during it. eventually i'll get around to posting some of the new stuff that was in my portfolio. there's a lot *A*

man, my life has been so consumed by preparing for college that i have nothing else to write about. my hair is all black now... i decided it was too hard to only dye parts of it black so i just did the whole thing. i think my face looks thinner. i am wearing lighter makeup... it's uh nice i guess. i am making things in jewelry class and i'm actually really excited. i'm going to make bronze letters in that old medieval font and attach it to a choker or something. still debating what to write.

FUN FACT: you can pinch the skin on your elbow as long and hard as you want, but it will never hurt.
